Canggu Scooter Rental: What to Know Before You Ride

Canggu is Bali’s surf and digital-nomad capital — a stretch of coast where rice fields meet beach clubs, co-working spaces sit next to warungs, and the energy is unlike anywhere else on the island. Batu Bolong, Berawa, Echo Beach, and Pererenan each have their own character, and the best way to experience them all is on two wheels.

A scooter rental in Canggu gives you the freedom to move the way locals do. The backroads here are narrow and often congested — cars get stuck, ride-hailing apps surge, but on a scooter you slip through and park right at the door of any café, beach club, or surf spot. It’s faster, easier, and just how Canggu works.

Canggu is also a perfect base for day trips by scooter. Seminyak‘s restaurants and shopping are 15 minutes south, Uluwatu’s cliffs and temples are about an hour down the Bukit Peninsula, and Ubud‘s rice terraces are an easy morning ride through the highlands. Pick a scooter from the surf-rack category and your board comes along for the ride.

During peak season, scooters in Canggu book up fast — reserve yours in advance to lock in your preferred bike.

Canggu Scooter Rental FAQ

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Canggu?

The price depends on the model, the season and how long you rent. The Honda Vario 160 ABS is the most affordable model, while the Honda ADV 160 ABS and Yamaha NMax cost a little more. The bike cards on this page show the current daily rate, longer rentals are discounted automatically, monthly rates are available, and returning customers can request 10% off.

Yes. Bikago delivers to villas, hotels and co-working spaces across Canggu, including Batu Bolong, Berawa, Echo Beach, Pererenan and Umalas, and collects the bike at the end of your rental. Delivery and collection are free on rentals of 3 days or more; shorter bookings cost USD 5 per delivery or collection.

Yes. Indonesian law requires an International Driving Permit with a motorcycle endorsement, or an Indonesian SIM C licence. Police regularly check tourists around Canggu, Seminyak and Legian. If you do not have an IDP yet, Bikago can help you apply online.

No security deposit is needed when you add Bikago insurance at checkout. Without insurance, a refundable deposit of USD 750 applies to scooters and USD 1,250 to big bikes of 250cc and above. Bikago never keeps your passport. The insurance covers damage to the bike and theft with a USD 95 excess.

Yes. Surf-rack scooters are a separate category in the booking form: choose one and carry your board to Echo Beach, Batu Bolong or Pererenan.

It is manageable if you already ride a scooter, but the narrow lanes, the Berawa to Batu Bolong shortcut and evening beach-club traffic are not the place to learn. Beginners should take a lesson first and practise on the quieter roads through the rice fields toward Pererenan.

Seminyak is about 15 to 30 minutes south depending on traffic, Uluwatu takes around an hour via the Bukit Peninsula, and Ubud is roughly an hour to an hour and a half inland. One Bikago rental covers all of mainland Bali, but bikes cannot be taken on the fast boat to Nusa Penida.
